Microgram: The Pennsylvania State Police Erie Regional Laboratory (Erie, Pennsylvania) recently received a polydrug submission including plant material (identified as marijuana), white powder (identified as cocaine), and 14 pink tablets embossed with a number three on one side, suspected Ecstasy [...]. The exhibits were seized in Milcreek Township by the Milcreek Township Police Department. The tablets (total net mass 3.7 grams) were 8 millimeters in diameter and unmarked on the reverse face; analysis by color testing (Marquis), FT-IR, and GC/MS indicated not MDMA but rather a mixture of methamphetamine and lidocaine (quantitation not performed). This was the first submission of these type tablets to the laboratory.

Should the public have access to independent analysis of the products they consume?
The vast majority of analyses of over-the-counter, prescription, and recreational drugs are performed in secret with no independent oversite or review. No other historical record, free from politically-controlled agencies, is currently available in North America nor most other parts of the world.
DrugsData, a project of Erowid Center, needs the support of professionals, students, parents, individuals with means, and small foundations for a total yearly budget of around $120,000 USD. Erowid Center's general budget and the co-pays we require fund most of this cost.
